I am moving to the great State of Arkansas soon and I was wondering where a guy could find Morels up around the city of Harrisburg. Any help with the hunt would be Greatly accepted. I know were to look up here in Illinois but down there I have no Idea what kind of tree's to look around or what side hills to look on first .I am not looking to take any hunting grounds from anyone just need help to find them . I will locate my own woods to hunt in . I am a country boy and know that asking to other country boy's for help is a good thing. Thank you for your answers and advice !Matt

P.S. You can send me your answers to my e-mail if you like.

Fresh oysters....

Nov. 18 while deer hunting next to a swamp I stumbled upon a nice log lying on the ground that was full of oyster mushrooms. From the looks of it I was about a week or two too late. The majority of the mushrooms had wilted away. I picked a ziplock bag full of fresh ones and went on my way.

Foray and camp-out at Hawn State Park (Missouri) October 23-25, about an hour south of Saint Louis. Join us for three days of forays at Hawn and nearby Pickle Spring, or just day-trip Saturday or Sunday. We always find a good assorment of mushrooms here, including great edibles like sulphur shelf, hens, and lobsters (!).

All meals are potluck, and Shannon is bringing his Monster Pan to cook any of our finds, or stir up some paella (primo!). Bring an instrument to jam with around the fire, too.

Camping at the Park is $2 a night, event is free otherwise.

Directions to Hawn State Park

From St. Louis
Hawn State Park is 60 miles south of St. Louis and 20 miles west of Ste. Genevieve. From south St. Louis, take I-55 south to Exit 150. Exit onto Hwy. 32 and travel west 11 miles to Hwy. 144. Turn left onto Hwy. 144 and travel 4 miles to reach the state park

Went out to Wattansaw WLMA near Hazan AR to look for a Chicken of the woods but did not find one where I had previously, however, I did find some black and red chantrelles and some hedgehog mushrooms that should be a great tasting meal tomorrow. It was remarkable how many mushrooms were popping up after all this rain.

Is anybody finding any fall mushrooms. I finally found some King boletes, but that was two weeks ago in Wisconsin. This rain and cool weather should bring out some oysters, etc.

DVD Guys: I'm a firm believer in the Free Market system, and I have absolutely no problem with you making a buck. BUT, this is a Message Board / Forum, not an Infomercial channel!! Let's do our best to keep it that way!
I also believe there is more information and hunting tips put out on this Message board than ANY 55 minute DVD could ever convey!!! Thanks just the same.
I wish you good luck in your endeavor....I just wish you would advertise elsewhere! Thanks.

I have found 3-4 randomly so far. I have seen lots of little ones, but last year some of the smaller ones never fully developed for some reason.

I bet in the next couple of weeks there should be plenty if the rain will keep up.

Found a huge Chicken of the Woods mushroom!

yep ...I found exactly one chant at table rock lake
it was a fluke cause there were no Tawny Milcaps or red russulas ....just one chanty
Usually you see butterfly weeds blooming when the chants are up.....and those are not happening here either

Thought we would give it one more try on Friday night north of Pocahontas. The grass was too high and the ticks were to many. We called it a season.

Found none in AR recently but did find a few in SE MO last week and a few fresh mushrooms near the Mississippi in central MO and near L. Pomme de Terre MO on Tues and some over-the-hill near L. Stockton on Wed. It looks like it's near the end of the season in AR. With all the tree damage in northern AR it might be a lot better next year. Jerry L

Forgot to mention that I hunted a spot near Carrollton, MO over the weekend with no success. I think I was about 5 days early up there. The spot I hunted is usually a sure thing if they are popping.

Found four near Imboden last night. 2 were pretty dried up and two were real fresh and of the very large and yellow variety. when I start finding great big yellows that this usually signals to me that we are very near the end. Anyone else agree or disagree with this?

Going to try at least one more spot tonight and it might be my last hunt of the year depending on what I see.
