Even though it seems like a ghost town on this discussion board i want to inform everybody that the yellow chanterelles were in full swing last week. Probably 10 lbs without trying too hard. I keep checking my smooth chanterelle spot at mom's- just a few though. Smooths will follow yellows by about 2 weeks, and their season peaks mid-august. Aug 22 2009 i found 15 lbs of smooth chanterelles, just after 3 or so days of rain totalling about 3 inches. Chanterelles like it hot and wet. Have fun!

Anyone who is on Facebook, search for the page "OUTDOORS SHARE NETWORK" and join it. It's free, and the purpose is to share hunting and fishing opportunities between two seperate parties. The idea is to make out of state do it yourself hunts more affordable to the regular guy. You hunt my land, I hunt your land kind of thing. Check it out, it could benefit you. Thanks. And good luck with the summer shrooms, from one mushroom hunter to another.

Kris- are they yellows or smooth chanterelles? Find them north by perry lake by chance? Just curious, i have a spot on private land up north that produces a LOT of smooth chanterelles. Gotta wonder if it's time to go all the way out there yet. How many did you pick total and how much per pound?

So have they stopped popping? I thought of going out and giving it one last try. Only found about three pounds so far this year. The weather still seems right but I thought I would check here first to see if I would be wasting my time.

Opps, I slipped a finger on the wrong key on that last one. I just wanted to thank the one who mentioned the morel article in Sunday's Kansas City Star. I checked it out on the Star web-site and enjoyed it very much.

Due to the low amount of morels collected this year, I have done some investigating and I think you will find my results quite interesting. Temperatures played a big part, as well as wildlife and and lack of rain. But, perhaps the most disturbing, terrifying, number one adversary of the morels was, THE SMURFS!!!! I have found there numbers are stronger than ever. Easily concealed in the underbrush, the freely attack the helpless morels. I know what your thinking, OH MY GOD! What can we do?!?!? Well fellow shroomers, we need to bring the fight to their toadstools. Show them that were not afraid to protect what's OURS! After a little testing, Ive found some weapons that'll send their blue blood flyin!! Up first is the .410 judge. Filled with birdshot and with it's easy concelment, you can take out multiple smurfs with every shot! For a more, up close and personnel combat, mAy I suggest the Weedeater, or should I say, the SMURF EATER!! When you get down on your shells, just whip this smurf thrashing machine out, and send chunks of them flyin!!!
Stand together!!! We can provale!! THIS IS KANSAS!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

There was a great article about the "mother-lode" in the local section of the star on sunday. It's worth reading for sure.

Now that the season is over here in Wichita, will someone tell me where those morels pop up around here?
Two years of finding zero shrooms sucks.
We even drove to an area north of Topeka twice this year and three times last year.
HELP!
I don't need to know where your honey hole is, but some help would be appreciated.

I agree with those who are a little disappointed in this season. I would give it a C-.

Is the season over. It is for me. Last couple of times out in some of my good spots have produced nothing but knee high weeds. I'm checking out.

It was A crazy year! Although I found about 3 pounds, it was A far cry from usual. We started off dry, then got really wet but with low heat. I was still finding them this time last year but, this is A different year. That's what makes hunting fun, their illusiveness!!!!!
