| Jayhawk4Life| | Lawrence, Kansas | | December 04, 2009 Hey folks, I thought you might like to know that the dues for a one year membership in the KAW VALLEY MYCOLOGICAL SOCIETY are so inexpensive that you could waste that money 10 times over in gasoline driving around and finding no mushrooms. Just a thought. It was decided today by fate that I must join the club. Through coincidence I met the president of the club & had a great conversation. I've been thinking about becoming a member for about 8 years now, or at least since I found out that such a club existed, and now I can't wait to go to the meetings and meet all the folks that are as obsessed about mushrooms as I am!
Late fall oytsers are mostly over I take it? |
| What's good in FL| | Tavares, FL | | chkneater(at)hotmail.com November 20, 2009 What is good in the southeast this time of year? I have found a couple of places where Amanitas pop up in the summer, but I wonder what would possibly pop up in the same areas this time of year. There is little rain right now but there are some swampy areas that stay moist and also have a few dead trees. It is also under a pine/oak hammock. I don't mess with the Amanitas, but am very aware of the poisonous ones that grow along with them. I am looking for truffles, hopefully in the oak heavy areas and chanterelles and morels. |
| rdgrey| | Emporia, ks | | November 12, 2009 What has been popping up so far? A friend of mine was telling me about eating puffballs. Found some large dead ones last may during morel season so I know the area where to find them. Anyone else finding anything? |
| Jayhawk4life| | Lawrence, Kansas | | November 06, 2009 ...And a hush falls over the discussion board until early April... We can talk about more than morels people! Meanwhile all the rest of us are enjoying the fall mushrooms season. |
| Jayhawk4life| | Lawrence, Kansas | | October 25, 2009 Get down real close and take a big whiff if you think you found a stinkhorn. You'll know for sure once you use your nose! On sunny days the flies absolutely LOVE them. Kinda gross but they're beautiful! |
| Jayhawk4Life| | Lawrence, Kansas | | October 21, 2009 What do stinkhorns look like, and are shitakes & Chantrelles popping up?
Stinkhorns look like a phallus. They Like mulch beds a lot. The chanterelles are past, they usually grow from june-early september in these parts. It was a good year for my chanterelle patch. As far as shitakes go, I have no idea, but hopefully by this time next year I have my own growing on some logs. |
| Cheftjr@msn.com| | Kansas City, KS | | October 21, 2009 What do stinkhorns look like, and are shitakes & Chantrelles popping up? |
| | | | | October 17, 2009 Yes,and I won't hold it agains't you that you are a Jayhawker or Jaywalker!! |
| Jayhawk4Life| | Lawrence, Kansas | | October 17, 2009 Are the hen's still popping up? I do residential pest control and notice a lot of stinkhorns in mulch beds while working, and it has occured to me that the hens tend to grow about the same time. for awhile I didn't see any stinkhorns, but I saw some yesterday. Shall we go look for hen's? |
| Feral Boy| | Saint Louis, Missouri | | October 13, 2009 Foray and camp-out at Hawn State Park (Missouri) October 23-25, about an hour south of Saint Louis. Join us for three days of forays at Hawn and nearby Pickle Spring, or just day-trip Saturday or Sunday. We always find a good assorment of mushrooms here, including great edibles like sulphur shelf, hens, and lobsters (!).
All meals are potluck, and Shannon is bringing his Monster Pan to cook any of our finds, or stir up some paella (primo!). Bring an instrument to jam with around the fire, too.
Camping at the Park is $2 a night, event is free otherwise.
Directions to Hawn State Park
From St. Louis Hawn State Park is 60 miles south of St. Louis and 20 miles west of Ste. Genevieve. From south St. Louis, take I-55 south to Exit 150. Exit onto Hwy. 32 and travel west 11 miles to Hwy. 144. Turn left onto Hwy. 144 and travel 4 miles to reach the state park |

| ulmus| | Pueblo, Co | | September 18, 2009 Anyone ever heard of morels popping at funny times at different altitudes? SYN I think I had some pop on the fence line of my new abode. Seemed a little slimy, possibly due to the sprinkler, so I let them dry befor picking but I'm re-hydrating to see if I can't get some decent pics. Any thoughts? |

| FKA Deuce Rider| | Newburgh, IN | | July 27, 2009 DVD Guys: I'm a firm believer in the Free Market system, and I have absolutely no problem with you making a buck. BUT, this is a Message Board / Forum, not an Infomercial channel!! Let's do our best to keep it that way! I also believe there is more information and hunting tips put out on this Message board than ANY 55 minute DVD could ever convey!!! Thanks just the same. I wish you good luck in your endeavor....I just wish you would advertise elsewhere! Thanks.
