| omaha| | omaha | | June 07, 2010 has anyone found any shrooms lately, the recent rains may have sprung a new flush but not sure.. just checking if theres anyone still active or any out there... im on a hunt for some paneaeolus cinctulus and wondering if anyone has found any of theses... i have found some that resemble the atributes that the shrooms grow in and its natural enviro and am in the process of positive identification... they are local and grow in all lower 48 states... just feeling the vibe and seeing that if we really do have mushroom hunters in here... | Dry Bones| | Chadron, NE | | May 30, 2010 Almost 4 inches of rain the past week has the second flush popping in the Pine Ridge country. |
| shawna| | bayard, ne | | littlegorb(at)embarqmail.com May 21, 2010 i'v been waiting all month and today i went out and caught about 5 pounds of huge yellows, and some greys. crazy weather we've been having so they are a little late for the area. i am eating some fresh, i froze some in water, and i am dehydrating some as well. being such huge beasts, i had to quarter some of them. i found that the frozen ones are pretty close to fresh when you cook them. going out again tomorrow with my daughter to catch some more! |
| | | Omaha, NE | | May 20, 2010 good luck advocating surrender of secret spots in the 'name of science'. Spose you think we should all live in the woods and sing coombyya together too? what would you really do with the research anyway? People that have those spots already know what they would do- pick another round of mushrooms! wow- i should have brought my scientific tools with me to figure that one out. |
| oh yeah| | lincoln, ne | | May 19, 2010 bring me a camera and stop hating |
| Basoon| | se, NE | | May 19, 2010 I am dismayed at the lack of scientific information regarding regrowth within a season or subsequent seasons.
You'd think that in this era of GPS and fast communication that we could settle this once and for all, but perhaps we just lack trust in sharing our locactions.
I propose some of us should band together and do a scientific study. Let's create a database of findings that contains date, lat/long, weather, and and other possible variables and see what patterns do or don't emerge.
Of course, this could take years and would require trust among involved hunters, possibly revealing some favorite secret spots, but think of how we could move past personal anecdotes and opinions into some hard data and science!
I don't think it would hurt any of us to declare some common monitoring points shared between trusted hunters.
Thoughts? |
| | | | | May 18, 2010 To oh yeah, I personally think u r full of u know what, they r not coming back up again,they don't do that!!! |
| Missouri ShroomMate| | Kansas City, MO | | May 18, 2010 Hey Oh Yeah,
You don't know how ready I am to believe you! Like most others I don't want it to be over. I have one or two meals worth of freshies left and I would love to get some more. But after going to Northern NE and Central SD over the last 10 days I can't say I believe you. Please show me a photo of your freshies with today's paper so I can change my plans immediately. Feel free to send via email if you don't want to post it...

| Stevo| | Cb , Ia | | May 17, 2010 I disagree with packman they do grow bigger in the right conditions moisture shade. Next year will show you if you can don't pick them and watch they will spread out more will grow. My brother has them in his yard and he waits to mow and watches them grow everyyear the ones in the shade grow bigger and stay grey the ones in the sun bleach and turn yellow yes they do grow on was the size of my arm one was a little bigger than a twenty oz bottle |
| Stevo| | Cb, Ia | | May 17, 2010 Where did golden morel go my bro did you have a good season? I found my usual probly three four pounds maybe more! Did you have a good birthday? Did it Involve any fishing? My boy has been fishing every weekend since once with all of us and the rest with his grandpa same damn spot you called it. We will make it to see you soon. J |
| Dan| | Lincoln, Ne | | May 17, 2010 Are there any morels for sale yet ? 402-202-5050 |
| Cubensis Deciple| | omaha, ne | | May 16, 2010 well i hope that the seasons is not over ..weather has been playing tricks and mycelium that is the network of the life of the shroom is being confused... the shroom that some of us have collected have just been in a window of good temps... shroome usually have a couple of flushes where fruits will appear then harvested or die off usually in four to ten days new shrooms will appear... i know this because of my studies and i have actully have gone into dodge park and claimed my shrooms and waited five days to go back to the same spot to find even more...i have done this for three weekends and have me a honey spot... if your into shroom hunting you can start to find other eddibles and some actives out there...there are some some panaeolus sub strains that are poping up as well as oysters and chicken of the woods... |
| Basoon| | SE, NE | | May 16, 2010 If it's over, it has been a lousy season, probably due to the weather. Too dry early on, now wet but too cold.
If not, I hope there is a spike in the next few days as we get temps over 70.
I'm no expert, though....just my personal theory. I've seen an upswing in non-morel shrooms in the last week, so maybe there is hope.
