| Sammy| | Rock Hill, SC | | cooksammy(at)yahoo.com December 24, 2009 Hey Everyone. I'm looking to find people interested in showing me the ropes of morel hunting. I don't know anyone that hunts for morels currently. I been out several times on my own and never had any luck. I guess I'm looking in all the wrong places. If you email me just put morel in the subject line.

| Matt Davis| | Seneca, SC | | scarcazim(at)yahoo.com May 02, 2009 Anymore SC pics of those wonderful morels. My mother hooked me on the "hunt" back in Indiana. Love it! Love them! I take it that I missed the hunt here this year? If not point me in the right direction, or as close to it as possible... :-) |

i would recommend you try the upstate area, maybe even go into the southern part of north carolina. i believe pisgah national forest in the western part of the state. i was down there last year, but to early. i hunted in sumter national forest, central. it was a different woods than i ever hunted in. lots of pine. some mixed hardwoods. at least where i was. however some areas looked good to me. my advice to you is go out and try, the worst you'll do is have a nice walk in the woods.
many BINGOS to all |

Found 3 yellows under some poplars. My first morel find down here since I moved to the south 18 years ago. I had to leave 10 minutes after I found the first so I'm hoping there will be more as soon as I get a chance to return. |
| SC Mushroom Man| | Spartanburg, SC | | March 23, 2009 The only morels I have found in this area were in bottomland hardwoods. So I'd say yes this is a good assumption. |
| MOREL MINER| | GREENVILLE, SC | | proinvestments(at)charter.net March 22, 2009 SC Mushroom man, would it be safe to assume that the river bottoms and or lowline areas are good places to concentrate on? It appears that most of the mature hardwoods are in these particular areas, (with exception of the mountainous regions), because of the clearcuts. Happy Hunting! |
| SC Mushroom Man| | Spartanburg, SC | | March 21, 2009 I have found 8 small yellows near Spartanburg. They are coming up slowly, it is still early, There will be many more in a week or two. |
| MOREL MINER| | GREENVILLE, SC | | March 21, 2009 No luck in the Upstate today. Can anyone top this?? |

| SC-MushroomMan| | Spartanburg, SC | | March 18, 2009 I have never found morels near pines or oaks in SC. It took me 4 years to figure out where to find them...... I'd say almost 100% of morels that I find here grow under ash trees, occassionally I find them under tulip poplars but these are small "morchella deliciosa". Much bigger "morchella esculenta" can be found under ash. The problem is that ash trees are difficult to find in this area also. They grow almost exclusively in low laying spots near creeks and rivers. Look for hardwood covered bottomland areas, the common trees in these areas are tulip poplar, sycamore, river birch, sweet gum, maple, box elder.... and usually ash |
| Jean M| | Anderson , SC | | March 18, 2009 Mushroom Man, I am new to this area. Can you tell me what the terrain was like where you found your schrooms? What kind of trees were they by? I see alot of pines here. I have never found any by pines in the Midwest. I am figuring I need to look for the oaks? Any leads to the right areas here would be wonderful:) |
