Jim, I tried freezing them, but in a few days they tasted like dirt.I have an Excaliber Dehydrator and that worked the best for taste and texture. |

stumpers-honey mushroom are everywhere. Through september found 13 Hens, 4 Umbrella polypores, a few chicken, 3 bears head tooth, about 100 sweettooth. Also quite a few aborted entomola's but hardly any Blewits. Anyone finding Blewits??? |

I've found fresh hens and chickens thru the month of October,
so there is still plenty of time. Blewits and shaggy manes
are just starting to pop now too.
Blake, I checked out that site and not much happening
but since it is still up, thats a good sign.
I see they have a phone # and and email under the newsletter
section, so just give them a call.

I found a few more hens today ...but seemed to be drying out.Also see that the chickens are loosing there orange color and turning brown. Does this mean the the season for them r over or do they come up in different flushes....does anyone know??!!?? i just began fall shroomin this year so i am learning lil on them |

Hey Rubbnsmoke, the best way I found is to saute them lightly, let them cool and put them in a good freezer bag and freeze them. When I dried them they came back like leather. If you get all the air out of the bag they should last for a year or more. |

I recently harvested a couple huge clusters of Chicken Mushrooms, I harvested one in Metamora and the other in Troy, for a total of about 30 lbs. Here's my question, do they dry well? I mean if I run them thru my dehydrater, do they dry and keep and rehydrate well? |
