The season is over at lower elevation, Found a small flush in an area i'd already hit(3weeks ago)(2300ft)very dry now, moved up the mt. (4800ft), found snowpack, various mushrooms , some false morels, so possible for more morels to flush at higher elevations. But i believe it will be wrapping up pretty soon all together, been a great season out here, been picking for 2months.

On June 19th and 20th 2010 I went to the Snoqualmie National Forest near Yakima in Washington state and we found just over 350 Black Morels. Check out all the pictures:

As you can see it was a great hunt! Any other Washington winning trips?

Is it too late for morels in Bozeman? The last report of success here was a while ago, but I was thinking this hot, sunny weather after a month of rain would cause them to pop.

Anyone who is on Facebook, search for the page "OUTDOORS SHARE NETWORK" and join it. It's free, and the purpose is to share hunting and fishing opportunities between two seperate parties. The idea is to make out of state do it yourself hunts more affordable to the regular guy. You hunt my land, I hunt your land kind of thing. Check it out, it could benefit you. Thanks. And good luck with the summer shrooms, from one mushroom hunter to another.

South Lake Wenatchee Memorial Day Weekend 2010 we found about 15 great look Black Morels in only maybe 15 minutes. We found them under large pines but also along marshy beaver type habitat. They were at about 1800 feet in elevation. Happy hunting! Leave a message on my mushroom board at

Thanks Farmer John! We found a pound or so off a second year burn. Will try heading to the smaller burns. Wondering if slide or flood ares in the cascades produce them?

@ moreldilema.....not much in the burn category in the cascades this year...or anywhere in thr lower 48. you'll have to search out lots of little postage stamp burns....no complexes this year.

good luck.

went up 140 towards fish lake, and the hills are very good for descent sized grayish morels. Probably got about 5-7lbs

Oysters grow on cottonwoods, dead or alive. They probably grow on other trees, too, but since there are only a few tree species in MT I just find them on the cottonwoods. Mostly I seem to find them on stumps and fallen trunks that were cut/blown down within the last few years. They are usually easier to find than morels and often appear in very large clusters.

Found a dozen blacks and just a couple of yellows yesterday... Rained hard all day, nice today..we'll see what tonight brings. What trees are the oysters on or around here in MT?

I found 7 morels after an extensive search of several very large cottonwood groves. Looked like someone had been through one of my spots a day or two earlier, but it didn't look like there had been much action then, either. Finding tons of consolation oysters to fill the void in my belly. It rained all day yesterday so I'm going to get back out there. Still hoping. I don't know what's going on in the burn areas now, but I'm assuming it's been a bit too cold at those elevations yet.

The usual suspects, small blacks, have shown up in the yard again. Found a few more than last year and will spend some time combing the woods for more tomorrow.

They are max, 2 inches tall and I'm lucky if I get a dozen but it's always so nice to find them in my yard here in Alaska.

The morels have finally arrived in the mid elevations in Idaho and Eastern Oregon. Found some monster yellows under cottonwoods this year, and the greys and blacks are coming up heavy in the conifers. Found over 300 yesterday, can't wait to go back mid week to pick up all the little guys that were left .

Found about 200 blonds, greys and blacks over the weekend around Black Butte. Picking has been hard with the cold and dry weather. Not as abundant as usual. How did other do this weekend around here?

I found 15 morels growing near the Yakima river under some cottonwood trees. They were far and few between compared to the false morels, which i spotted about 50 or so, too bad they are not edible... I'm assuming the real morels grow more abundantly in the higher elevations?. Heading for Blewitt Pass tomorrow, wish me luck :)

Debby, It has been a very slow year for me here in MT. Finding very few morels, one here two there. Last week we found 20 and they were starting to dry up. Total maybe 50 morels all year. I just dont think we had enough moisture, I am thinking its about done on the river bottoms here. Most years I find them end of april to mid may on the river.
